Roy Ngerng: You can love your country without having to love your government

昨天我去了（马来西亚柔佛州）新山观看‘星国恋’。这部电影是被新加坡媒体局禁止在新加坡上映的。当您听到新加坡人为了逃避当局的逮捕被迫流亡国外时是一部极其感人的。这是一部感人的影片。

Yesterday I went to Johor Bahru to watch 'To Singapore with Love' today, the film banned by MDA. It is very touching watching the film when you hear stories of Singaporeans who had to flee Singapore because the authorities wanted to arrest them. 

然而，他们是普通的新加坡人。他们参与了学生会、工会和反对党。他们被迫离开还有一些被逮捕了。在（上一个世纪）1960年到1970 年看到了许多无辜的新加坡人被逮捕后不经审讯拘留。这些人就是为了一个他们所热爱的新加坡而斗争。

Yet, they are ordinary Singaporeans who fought in student unions, labour unions and the opposition, who were forced to step down, and many arrested. The 1960s and 1970s saw many innocent Singaporeans arrested and detained without trial, simply for fighting for a Singapore they love. 

影片里的流亡人物都想要回到新加坡，因为他们而iji成为一个新加坡而感到骄傲！他们都想要回到新加坡来与亲人和朋友们见面。但是，他们都不获准回来新加坡并被迫放弃自己的公民权！。

In the film, many of the exiles wanted to come back to Singapore because they were proud to be Singaporeans and wanted to come back to see their family and friends, but they were not allowed back, and were forced to give up their citizenship.

您听到他们与我们分享自己的经历时，您将会理解他们为什么而斗争的感受。这样的感受是被新加坡人或新加坡所驱使，还是由于无理的逮捕行动。

You hear them share their stories and you understand the passion they have, and why they fought. And how this passion was driven out of Singaporeans either by them being driven out of Singapore or by being arrested for no valid reason.

当我听到了他们在表达他们要为（新加坡）做出无数的贡献但是他们无法付出时，我观看后我哭了。其中的一位流亡者说，为了我们“我非常的对不起！我无法为新加坡做出更多的贡献”。

I watched and teared, when you hear of how much they wanted to do what they can for Singapore, but could not. One of the exiled Singaporeans said, "I am sorry I did not do enough for Singapore", to fight for us. 

事实上，他们已经做了他们也为此而斗争了！他们也为此被迫流亡了。尽管目前流亡在国外，他们还是继续在斗争！这不是他们做的不够！这不是他们无法做到！

But they did. They fought, and then they had to flee Singapore, but still they fought for us from outside. It was not that they did not do enough. It was that they could not. 

行动党控制了的内部安全局、媒体，同时控制了学生会和工会，把他们清楚去这些组织。今天新加坡人已经能够使用社会传播媒体回击行动党了！行动党要我们相信他们公司我们的一切。但是，我们拒绝了。我们回击了。

The PAP controlled the Internal Security Department, the media and took control of the student union and labour unions. They were forced out. Today, Singaporeans are able to use social media to fight back. PAP wants us to believe what they tell us but no, we fight back. 

亲爱的同胞们，今天其他的新加坡人在为争取我们新加坡人争取自由的历史，这些人非常努力的进行争取实现这项愿望！但是，他们无法达到这个愿望。不要让他们所付出努力全功尽废。对我们而言，他们是为新加坡而全心全意、忠诚的感情和斗志进行斗争的！

Dear Singaporeans today, other Singaporeans had fought for our freedoms in the earlier years of Singapore's history. They fought hard. But they could not achieve what they wanted to do. Don't let what they did go to waste. They fought with heart, with passion and with spirit, for Singapore, for us.
