Dear Mr Low, Ms Lim, Dr Chee, Mr Tan, Mr Kenneth, and all other opposition parties,
Please put some thought to this post.
As a Singaporean and opposition member, your objectives cannot be just to get into Parliament. This by itself is only a temporary victory. We have seen this for ourselves with the last elections with WP winning more seats in Parliament. No doubt this was a huge improvement and kudos to WP but it should be clear to all that winning seats in Parliament is not good enough. We need enough seats to be proactive in protecting the interests of the country and Singaporeans.
Realistically speaking, with the clock ticking, Singaporeans cannot afford to repeat a similar conclusion for 2016 elections. NO, this is not an acceptable result for Singaporeans. To the leading opposition parties, Mr Low, Ms Lim, Dr Chee, Mr Tan, Mr Kenneth, your objectives for the coming elections are :
- Deny the PAP the majority in Parliament
- Collectively, form a coalition, and together with PAP to form the government.
In order to achieve this, it is critical that all oppositions urgently hold a series of meetings with the 2 key agendas.
- Run a joint election campaign
- Brainstorm on how to implement the objectives above
- aggressively communicate your strategy on how you would run the country as a coalition
WP being the dominant opposition party should be allowed to take the lead in facilitating the meetings. I give that it will not be easy to come to a complete consensus because of the strong personalities involved, and the different party philosophies. I do however believe the various party leaderships possess the political maturity and magnanimity to overcome the differences because all Singaporeans are united by a common goal, take back our country and take care of Singaporeans, Old and New.
Netizens and Activists like Roy, HHH, Uncle Leong, Uncle Yap, Ravi, Catherine Lim, Dr Tan Cheng Bock, Prof Tommy Koh… should be invited for their views and contributions.
With the collective resources of brainpower, reputation, charisma, funds and most importantly, a symbol of Singaporean Unity, I sincerely believe that we can really make the CHANGE.
