Yesterday, I was at the ABC Market queuing up for my favourite Muslim rice. Guess what I saw? Not one, not two but THREE fat police officers!! This is not the first time I see policeman queuing for food. But, what was appalling was they were so fat. After reading this, some obese readers may feel offended, but I can assure you I mean no disrespect. Because frankly speaking, I am very fat.
We all know that the PAP government takes excellent care of its civil servants. Mind you, those policemen that I saw were not newly recruited. There were TWO staff sergeants and ONE sergeant. So, my guess is they did not start out this way when they joined the police force some time back when dinosaurs roamed our planet. Come on, we also see a lot of SAF Staff Sergeants or Warrant Officers walking around like they are TWENTY months pregnant!! Years of binge drinking in the Specialists’ Mess have resulted in all carrying beer bellies. However, I am not too worried about the SAF because there is one GRAVE difference between the two. That is, policeman carries firearms in public!!
Many times, we have taken our low crime rate for granted. The stabbing at Raffles Place was reported all over the news when it was really no big deal. Had this happened in New York or Paris, there may not have been any mention at all. This however is no reason to be complacent!! Like what the police always advertise, “LOW CRIME DOES NOT MEAN NO CRIME”. Come one of these days, some clown will be stupid enough to snatch a gun from a policeman. Guess who will be the easy prey? – Obviously a fat policeman!!
WHY? Obviously he cannot run after you when you have taken his firearm, right?! One of the three policemen I saw was exceptionally obese!! He looked like he has just swallowed a giraffe!! But seriously, I am really scared that he will have a heart attack after just walking two flights of stairs. I am not saying these policemen should be fired. But there should come a time when they are no longer as fit and should be RE-ASSIGNED to desk-bound jobs. In fact, for anyone who needs to carry a pistol around, passing the IPPT should be the most basic criteria!!
There is no shame in reassigning them. I mean have you ever seen any 50 year old stewardess on your flight? Same here, if you CANNOT defend your arms properly, then please do not carry one. I do not fear for my own life, because I am a nobody. BUT given the so much unhappiness that people have with the PAP government, who can ensure that there will be no lunatic who will snatch a pistol and storm into the Parliament or a Meet-the-MP session to kill a PAP politician?! So, I rather be safe than sorry. Chee Hean, it is time to shape up your Home Team!!
