Dear TRS,
An SMRT train on the circle started leaking water into the cabin today despite it not raining at that time.
It happened on the circle line near Dhoby Ghaut station at about 4:20pm in the afternoon.
It started with just a few drops but it soon became a constant drip before it was a large leak as heavy as a sink tap.
We weren’t really sure what the liquid was and we were a bit worried because it wasn’t even raining so it might not even have been water.
A few minutes later, some staff came into the train to clean up the mess with one man mopping the floor.
When I left the train, it was sunny so I’m not sure how long the water had been in the train roof.
I’m really concerned about the safety of our train system. Is the train supposed to have large amounts of water stores in their ceilings? If not, how come SMRT still doesn’t know how to prevent this from happening?
This is certainly not the first time that water has leaked into the MRT cabins. We often see such stories on Facebook.
I feel most angry because despite SMRT raising their fares, they still can’t address these basic issues. Is our safety being put at risk by the leaking trains? Even if it’s not that bad, I’m quite sure having water leaking into and being left in the ceilings will cause some parts to rust and wear out much faster than if they just built their trains properly from the start.
In the end it will be us paying with our tax money, for all these problems. Sometimes I feel like scamming the system and just following behind another person without tapping my ezlink card. It’s really despicable that we have to keep paying and paying when there is no real improvement in services.
