Xenophobia: A growing problem in Singapore

With the increasing foreigner population in Singapore, there has been more and more hatred towards them due to some undesirables casing mischief around the Island. In Primary and Secondary school, we are taught about racial harmony, tolerance towards other races and religion and not to generalize an entire group based on the actions of one bad egg.

An example: if a terrorist who just so happened to be Muslim (no offense to any Muslims, this is just an example) caused a bombing and killed some people, anyone who insults Islam on social media or in real life face backlash of angry comments stating not to generalize and not to judge the entire religion based on the actions of one extremist. However, if it were a PRC/FT doing something stupid, everyone would jump onto the bandwagon and reprimand the entire PRC/FT population. Why is the intolerance of others based on something they cannot change only acceptable if it involves religion or race? Should it extend out to their Countries as well?

I'm not saying that all PRC/FTs are angels there are surely some people who do outrageous things that disgust us or otherwise, but isn't that true for every group of people? The irony of the situation is, a lot of Singaporeans hate being generalized themselves, but are quick to judge the entire population of foreigners based on the acts on a bad apple. One example would be the American guy who insulted Singaporeans based on the Aaron Tan video a few years back. I know people are frustrated about the growing population and competition caused by the foreign workers, but we shouldn't put the blame on them, they, like us just want to earn a living. If anyone is to blame it's the Government but that is another topic.

The point I'm trying to make here is that we shouldn't be too quick to group all foreigners into the same boat. I've seen good deeds done by these foreigners as well, such as an Indian Worker giving up his seat to elderly despite other younger Singaporeans who ignore the fact that the old man was standing right in front of them. Basically, there are always going to be people who are going to "Throw face" for the FTs(or even Singaporeans) but let's not allow that to turn to blind hate for the entire group of them.
