I predict that if Singapore goes to war, 50% of our soldiers will run away

Morale is (continues to be) a problem with the Singapore army.

Generally, reservists (the bulk of Singapore's army) have no motivation to fight. Being conscripted, many are in the army unwillingly. The same applies to the conscripted non-reservist troops.

This is my assessment based on observation, reason, judgement and from talking and listening to reservists (and non-reservists as well, if I remember correctly).

Some of those will flee Singapore with their families should war break out. Some have their family or children already studying overseas and therefore they are safely overseas should Singapore be at war. It is expected that many of the rich with property and businesses overseas will flee Singapore. The same goes for those who are the top leaders of the PAP and PAP government, their families and those close or connected (linked) to them.

We can expect many New citizens and the foreigners (working) here to flee Singapore.

Expect mass desertions in the Singapore army. A conservation estimate will be about 30% desertion. Maybe more than 50% will desert.

With huge numbers of foreigners taking up top paying jobs in Singapore (eg: Doctors, banking, Infomation Technology) which Singaporeans can do, morale among many (or most) Singaporean soldiers is low, and there is little reason for Singaporeans to fight.

(The houses and buildings in Singapore are not safe from bombing. Do not expect the enemy to obey the Geneva Convention not to bomb civilian buildings and targets)
