Other than Easter Sunday, today is also a special day celebrated by Cannabis activist and enthusiast worldwide. On April 20th of every year, Cannabis users from all over the world light up in celebration of "420". Kinda like an October fest for Cannabis users.
420 is usually celebrated as a "420 Rally", usually over a 3 day period from 19 April to 21 April. The 420 rally itself is usually celebrated with a music festival, most likely an homage to Woodstock Music & Art Fair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock), a famous or infamous 3 day music concert that has became synonymous with counter culture movement. And in countries where Cannabis have been legalized, and some that haven't, thousands of people gather together and light up all at once at 4:20pm for a big smoke. In some festivals, the big smoke was so big that it actually fogged up the entire congregation.
Also in countries that have legalized Cannabis, 420 has become a great tourist attraction for the city they have held. In 2014, major cities like Denver, Colorado, London, Harlem, Melbourne and many other liberal cities all around the world.

Now, about the name 420 itself, no one really knows how the code 420 has became synonymous with Cannabis. But the most likely story came from San Francisco in the 1970's where a group of teenagers who called themselves "The Waldos" accidentally came across a large amount of wild Cannabis plant growing in the nearby woods. They decided to keep their discovery a secret and would always meet up to smoke together at 4:20pm but soon these friends made new acquaintances who enjoyed their group activity and one of them turned out to be a band member for "The Grateful Dead." And with that the term 420 spread like wild fire among The Grateful Dead fans and over the years, all over the world.

So today, we at Singapore Cannabis Awareness would like to wish everyone a Happy 420. May we one day be able to celebrate it publically in Singapore. :)
