As a Singaporean I would like to extend my most sincere apologies to our Filipino friends living here in Singapore. I am ashamed that such atrocity had happened - what had meant to be a day of celebration and happiness was destroyed by certain degenerates of our society. I am deeply embarrassed by it.
Singapore is a global city and by living and working here I'm sure you are friends with many of the locals here - that you know not all Singaporeans are tasteless, childish and xenophobic like the people that have caused you distress and discomfort. I assure you that being a part of our society contributing to our nation in so many ways, you are certainly very welcome to enjoy our city - Orchard road or anywhere else. Singapore is a free nation.
Like many Singaporeans, I was taken care of by a Filipino growing up and she was like family to me. I hope that you accept my apology on behalf of all Singaporeans and I would be certainly glad to be part of your celebrations. Not all Singaporeans are like that. Let not the backwardness of these menace be a blockade to the friendship and partnership between both our nation!
I wish you a happy Independence Day in advance!
