Dear Fellow TRS Readers,
Below are two links to statistics provided by supposedly reliable sources. They say that an average Poly grad after serving NS can acheive salaries of $2k+

However that is not the case for my job search. I am experiencing extremely low and mediocre pay offers from SMEs to MNCs, through agency and self-sourced jobs that I have approached. What does these all mean? Are the statistics all "BS"? I've just been offered a job at an MNC bank with a job description that is quite substantial but at S$1800.00 (before CPF) with a 1 year contract. I don't know of anyone who would wholeheartedly say that is alright for a local Singaporean, post ORD and a Diploma holder. Does companies totally ignore the fact that "serving NS is considered as work experience"? Am I really worth all that little? Or am I just expecting a little too much?
What is MOM doing to ensure that the companies operating in Singapore recognises the fact that we (male Singaporeans) have served 2 years out of our lives for National Service?
The consideration for NS to be work experience is quite the topic that can go on endlessly. The fact is not what any individual did or have performed in NS but that we have lost the chance to advance in pay or position AND experience in any company, industry or field. You can't deny this topic when the statistics themselves have a variable that states the pay for "post-ORD graduates".
What's your take?
