Solutions for Singapore: Decentralisation and Part-Time FTs

Crowded MRT

Decentralization

For those who don't know, decentralization is taking what lies in the middle of a country and placing it elsewhere.

So how does this help Singapore?

Hugely! MRT problems would get resolved largely and habitation zones would get relief or more activity.

Let's start point by point:

The Positives:

1. MRT overcrowding would ease if all the company's would disperse over the country and go more to the 4 corners of the country. People could live closer to work and have to travel less so we could have more breathing space especially on the green line.

2. Overcrowded city areas would get some relief without losing major crowds.

3. City areas on the outer extremes would be revitalized with new crowds.

4. City areas on the outer extremes would increase in value.

5. Singapore is so small anyway, it is not too inconvenient to spread out the CBD.

The Negatives:

1. It costs to move a company from the center of the city to the edge of the city.

2. Some people will have longer travel times if they travel from center to edge of the city if they live in the center or the opposite side of the working place, (in Europe there has been a solution for this matter called house swapping. People who live in equal value houses swap houses with each other to be closer to work).

Part -Time FT

What do i mean by part-time FT?

I will give you the Belgian example:

In Belgium we have some old fashioned romantic roads we like to keep in our patrimonium. But no one in Belgium knows how to make them anymore.

So we have to hire Foreign Talent from Spain to come repair those cute roads for us.

The Spanish FT arrive in Belgium, get a house or apartment to stay in for the duration of the works near their worksite. They stay for the amount of time required to fix the roads, then leave, back to their beautiful Spanish country.

They are happy, they got a nice job, pleasant stay in Belgium, good pay, we are happy, good job done and we wave them goodbye and say see you next time.

That is how a FT should work. There will be less overcrowding as only the essential workers are here and it won't impact on population as they are never permanent and wont sink roots.
