TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A female senior high school student and a male college student who were filmed apparently engaging in oral sex on the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system were yesterday referred to prosecutors by the police.
The high school student, who went to the police in Kaohsiung accompanied by her mother and school staff, admitted performing oral sex on the train.
Meanwhile in Taipei, the college student reported to the police's summoning and told the authorities that the decision was made “out of fantasy and on the spur of the moment.”
The couple could face legal charges for violating clauses in the Social Order Maintenance Act (社會秩序維護法) and Offenses Against Sexual Morality in the Criminal Code (刑法妨害風化罪), the police said.
The girl, a senior in a Kaohsiung vocational school, told the police in Kaohsiung during questioning that she was simply giving in to the man's demands. She said that she did not know such an act performed in public is against the law.
The 18-year-old said she met the man over the Internet and they arranged a date for April 20.
During their MRT ride, the man asked her to perform oral sex on him, she told police.
The male suspect, a university student, also turned himself in to the Kaohsiung police, but claimed that he did not force the woman to do anything against her will.
The incident came under the spotlight after a video of the incident, recorded by a Hong Kong tourist, was uploaded to the Internet.
In the film, the couple sits together on the MRT, with the man holding a book and the woman with her head in the man's lap, a coat covering her face.
Despite the woman being partially covered by the coat, bystanders suspected she was performing oral sex.
The Hong Kong tourist posted the film on her Facebook page and it quickly went viral.
The Chinese-language Apple Daily newspaper yesterday put the story on its front page, drawing public concern over the alleged inappropriate behavior on the public transportation system.
The Kaohsiung City Police Department later confirmed the identities of the couple and summoned them for interrogation.
Local media quoted lawyers as saying that the couple could face legal consequences despite their attempt to keep their actions hidden.
