Before you rejoice about the govt changing towards a more generous provider for the citizens, remember that there is no free lunch in the new proposals.
Making Medishield compulsory and covering the rest of one's life, does not help reduce your healthcare costs.
They are going to make you pay more premiums, alot more without opting out! Anyone with actuary experience will know premiums go up if coverage is extended.
Want to be generous, PM Lee? Provide free health care for those pioneer Singaporeans aged 65 and above for the rest of their life. Too much a burden for our swelling coffers? How about subsidizing 75% of this increased premium.
Singaporeans, dont be snooked by their generosity because there isn’t any.
On a seperate matter, stupid populist policy of allowing 40 spaces in P1 with no prior connections in fact merely reinforces those who have money can now simply increase their chances of going to schools located in Bt Timah and Holland area.
How does this policy actually equalise opportunity? What about schools with small enrolment like MGS when cohort is only 6 classes but has >100 years history and alumni behind it. 40 spaces are 17% of its cohort!
Those rich enough will be buying homes around that area with this new ruling. If they really want to increase opportunity for the less connected, open up some spaces to those whose income levels are below certain levels to join these elite schools. But then, where is meritocracy in all of this. In meritocracy, there will always be losers and winners. We can’t make excuse nor bend too much to losers.
