There is also a case of a 2 year old girl being killed by a foster parent after she has been taken away from her family simply because her father smokes Cannabis occasionally.

But the story that is getting national attention right now is the confession made by CNN health correspondent Dr Sanjay Gupta. The doctor is known to have published an article in Times magazine in 2009 stating that he is against the legalization of Cannabis as he sees it to be a “very dangerous drug.” 4 years has passed since then and after extensive research, he has found that he was wrong in his stance on Cannabis, especially medical Cannabis.
Earlier this week he had came out and confessed on CNN network that he has been terribly misled in his investigation on Cannabis.
He stated in his statement: “We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the United States, and I apologize for my role in that. I hope that this article and upcoming documentary will set the record straight.”
He based his initial conclusion on Cannabis on American scientific literature which he later found out to be biased towards documenting the “harms” of Cannabis. Only 6% of the studies were about the benefits of Cannabis. Based on that numbers, one would come to the conclusion that Cannabis is indeed a dangerous a drug with very little benefits. But after further extensive research in overseas medical literature, he had found that he was terribly misinformed.
He found that Cannabis does not only have powerful medical benefits, but it could also be highly effective where standard pharmaceuticals have failed. He quoted an example of Neuropathic Pain (pins and needles or burning sensation caused by damaged to the nerve cells). He found that patients on Cannabis have been relieved from their pain to the point that they could function in everyday lives while current medication of Opium based medication like Morphine and Oxycodone could not. In addition to that, these narcotic based medications have a dangerous lethal dose. There is a death from overdose of these narcotic based medications every 19 minutes in the US while there has never been a documented overdose of Cannabis ever in the history of mankind.

Dr Sanjay has also made a documentary called “Weed” which is going to be aired on the CNN channel this weekend. Be sure to catch that and be informed.
On a side note: We can see the evolution of the world’s attitude towards Cannabis as more and more people are becoming more educated on the Medical benefits of Cannabis and the lack of harm in Recreational Cannabis. I believe that the legalization Cannabis is going to be THE biggest thing in the world comparable to the invention of the internet. Cannabis is going to solve so much of our current problems.
And yet, we are still known for our MDP (Marijuana Death Penalty) here in Singapore and South East Asia.
