Do new immigrants know what being Singaporean means?

I have been a Singapore citizen for over two years, and I am still trying to integrate as a local by participating in community events and reading books about the Singapore system.

Daily events have helped instil in me the importance of knowing Singapore’s vulnerabilities, and after recently attending job-training on risk assessment, where the topic was extended to the risks our country faces, I have been contemplating the meaning of the word “vulnerability”.

I hope our schools not only inspire curiosity and intelligence in our children, but infuse them with social values and teach them to take nothing for granted. When we ask the Government for more help, I hope we can take a stand at the macro level. For example, is it good to release more Central Provident Fund savings into the hands of the individual? Is it only the responsibility of educators to take care of our next generation?

And do new immigrants know the meaning of becoming Singaporean? I hope there is a systematic, more stringent recruitment process, with importance also placed on the morals and commitment of new immigrants.
