I'm a simple true born Singaporean who prefer not to be involve in political issue but I hope my views can be shared among Singaporean and create a better living and understanding environment.
Many people are talking about the influx of Foreigner, so I thought of sharing my view over here. Our main import of Foreigner are from China and many China national can't speak decent English and this will definitely cause how Tourists view Singapore as an English country, If you guys have been a fan or at least watch Taiwan show, you should have come across some variety show mocking Singaporean English, I strongly believe those people who have their first point of contact with the one serving them, is/are Foreigner which 90% chances are Chinese National. My thought is instead of letting them come here and just to increase the Chinese population, why not put them to good use? I don't mean the "mean" way but imagine, China national coming here are dedicated to work only in specific field where Mandarin is Primary use or in place where they can help so call "Increase the atmosphere". For example: China national can only work in places like Chinese Restaurant, I personally feel that walking into a Chinese Restaurant filled with China national rather then some other P & I country, it definitely feel that you are in the right atmosphere right? They understand better of the Menu and they themselves can serve as a, in Chinese “huo zhao pai” Be it in Chinese Restaurant, Chinese Departmental store something like the one over at Chinatown Etc. They can provide enriching information of China and History which I think is beneficial and act as a support to the struggling of Mandarin speaking society nowadays. Of cause no one will ask them out of the blue but I think a campaign can be set up to address this and change the way we know our history and even improve our Chinese Language. Right now what the government seem to be doing is like rather than putting the Ice-Cream in the fridge it is letting it melt all over the place.
I had work in big departmental store before and 10 employees, 4 are Chinese national, 3 being Malaysian and only 3 are Singaporean. These Chinese national often find us to help with local or tourists when English is the only communication. Why not put them in place where they can be serving better like example call centre where the line is specifically for Chinese communication only? There are still those elderly who are Mandarin educated or PR Malaysian who prefer Chinese living in Singapore. Of cause, where I can find so many Chinese restaurant or call centre to accommodate the China national, but I believe there are places out there which suit them better and with this, it can control better of the influx of China National to Singapore and leaving the other job position which are much suited for Singaporean or at least Foreigner who has stronger command of English and create a better environment for Tourists and Locals.
To all Employers, Manager. Please do consider my sincere ideas to create better Singapore. For the very least, send them to WDA for learning of basis English communication or get a WSQ WPLN certified certificate to proof their standard should be at the very least and GCE "N" level Pass grade.
