Family spent 198k from flat sale in less than 2 years
According to the Straits Times news reports “Family spent 198k from flat sale in less than 2 years” and “More public rental flat applicants used to be home owners” (Mar 12) – “Her family had sold their four-room flat in 2010 after they could not keep up with the mortgage payments.
Her husband also developed a serious medical condition, and much of the flat proceeds went towards his medical bills.”
Out of touch, uncompassionate, insensitive?
Are our Ministers so out of touch that they do not realise that everytime they cite an example in Parliament of how imprudent Singaporeans are in selling their HDB flats for short-term gains – it may actually show how uncompassionate and insensitive they are to the plight of the lower-income?
Come on! They sold their HDB flat because “they could not keep up with the mortgage payments”.
HDB flats are affordable?
As to “Less than two years after selling their flat, they had spent all the proceeds” – Come on! “Her husband also developed a serious medical condition, and much of the flat proceeds went towards his medical bills”.
Healthcare is affordable?
Madam A, her husband and her oldest son resorted to sleeping at void decks or the beach. Their three younger children, meanwhile, stayed separately with different relatives.
HDB so “compassionate”
After they appealed for a public rental flat, the Housing Board accepted their application on compassionate grounds.
In 2013, the family of six moved into a two-room rental flat, where they still live.”
- Since they became homeless around 2011/2012 – why did the “compassionate” HDB take so long – until 2013 to give them a rental flat?
For how long was the family homeless?
Our HDB is compassionate and social services system is working well?
“We have seen many cases like Madam A. … we hope home owners will make informed choices and not be easily taken in by the promise of short-term gains without realising the serious long-term implications.” – Please lah – are you just blindly reading a prepared script in Parliament? Don’t you realise how “stupid” it is to paint this family as one who was “easily taken in by the promise of short-term gains without realising the serious long-term implications”?
Like in football – we seem to be scoring so many “own goals” in Parliament nowadays!
