The Election Cabinet - a Hint of the Changes to Come

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said that he'll make some changes to the cabinet after the budget debate following the fact that Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing is leaving to head the Union.

The budget debate is currently underway and so a reshuffle is imminent.

This may be a chance to create an "election cabinet", where newcomers are given the chance to shine, and more people are promoted into the cabinet or given more important posts to allow them to be strong anchors in their respective GRCs.

Some changes are widely expected. For example, Chan Chun Sing is likely to become Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, in preparation for his taking over of NTUC as Secretary-General. Grace Fu will most likely take over him at MSF.

As for new members of the cabinet, we can get a clue from Teo Chee Hean's facebook page, which shows a photo taken when LHL was on MC. It tells us which non-cabinet members are currently attending cabinet meetings:

1. Sim Ann
2. Desmond Lee
3. Teo Ser Luck
4. Josephine Teo
5. Lam Pin Min

These people are second ministers or 'lesser ministers'. Will we be seeing them rise to prominence for the next election?

The two leftmost individuals in the picture are powerful mandarins: Benny Lim (PS - MND/NSCS) and Peter Ong (Head of Civil Service/PS - MOF)
