Residents at Bukit Batok will have a new community area by early 2016 as a 230m stretch of Bukit Batok Canal will be redeveloped to accommodate benches, pathways and gardens.
The Dr Amy Khor, the MP of the area announced these plans at a ceremony this morning explaining that the project will cost $400,000.
The project is part of the PUB’s active, beautiful and clean waters.
The area being redeveloped includes the areas of the canal between Bukit Batok West Avenue 2 and 4.
Some of the new facilities t be put in includes rain gardens, green areas to promote biodiversity and clean rain water. They also want to allow creepers to grow on the canal walls and make seats for residents using the area to sit on.
The project aims to create a community waterscape and PUB’s sustainability officer said that it could even be used in the future by schools to teach children how plants can help to cleanse water.
The redevelopment at Bukit Batok Canal is the first of three such planned projects in place for this year with the two others being at Kallang River and Sungei Bedok.
