Pioneers were ‘generally appreciative’ of the extra 50% medicine subsidy, which kicked-in this year as announced under the Pioneer Generation Package (PGP).
This is delusional, self-praised, mental masturbation much removed from the truth that can be felt on the ground.
The whole PGP is nothing but a dastard symbol of tokenism in attempts to win back lost votes and to stem further lost of votes in the run-up to the coming general election.
I am born of the Pioneer Generation, I was at a hawker centre for a miserly lunch of mee-rebus just yesterday and I spied a group of four pioneers across the table, gesticulating animatedly denouncing and cursing the current PAP government on issues like the pending increase in public transport fares despite a 50% plunge in crude-oil price the past six months, the incessant rise in the cost of living, social imobility for our next generation, the over-crowded living environment consequent of the massive rush of loud and unscrupulous foreign migrants, the bull-shit of the PGP etc. etc.
I finished my mee-rebus and bought a cup of kopi-o and than seized the opportunity to switch table to join in the fray although I did not know them from Adams. I was warmly welcomed into the group as a fellow suffering compatriot.
The whole spirited discussions went on for two hours before I announced my departure making four new friends, exchanging contacts and we all vowed to continue to denounce the failings of the current PAP government in every of our waking moments.
This is the best way to get the heavy loads of our chests and to have more from the 60% awakened to the harsh realities of life here consequent of the many flawed government policies.
Keeping quiet, swallowing and suffering in silence is no longer an option. We will certainly have more vocal and robust oppositions in parliament the next constitutional term, candidates from SDP & SFP are our preferred choices as they have already demonstrated their intellectual depth in offering viable alternatives to the PAP’s failing policies.
That said, any opposition will also do as we can no longer live in abject deprivation in our sunset years. We desperately want to see change before we slip into the vast unknown of after life.
