HDB: Demand for 93,995 flats against building statistics of 46,693
According to the HDB’s annual report 2013/2014 – the demand for flats was 93, 995 for 2011/12 to 2013/14, against the building statistics of only 46,693 for the same period (page 2 and 3).
Demand met?
So, how can the Ministry of National Development say recently that the building of flats will be cut because demand has been met?
The same rhetoric of demand has been met has been going on for years – For example:- “HDB to reduce supply of BTO flats next year” (The New Paper, Oct 27)
“Transitioning to a More Sustainable BTO Flat Supply” (HDB press release, Dec 30,2013)
“HDB to begin tapering off construction programme from 2014: Khaw Boon Wan” (Asiaone, Dec 2, 2013)
“Enough HDB flats to meet rising demand: Khaw Boon Wan” (Channel NewsAsia, Nov 25, 2012)
Statistics to support claim please
Can the Ministry give us some statistics to back up their claims?
Even for the previous period from 2006/07 to 2010/12 – demand was 64,767 against 29,935 flats.
