“All Animals (Bloggers) are Equal, but Some are More Equal than Others”?

Han Hui Hui, Roy Ngerng and Leong Sze Hian watched “Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1″ today, as it opened with much fanfare yesterday  in Singapore.

Han Hui Hui  said “Some people are really “no balls one” – never respond to all the Singaporeans’ questions about everything – including Aljunied town council – instead use some bloggers to respond with misleading info as usual. Why don’t we write an article together?”

When Han Hui Hui ask you to write a joint article – you better say yes – otherwise you will be scolded by her (just kidding lah!). After all, she is called affectionately by her fans as Chilli Padi!

So, pardon the language of this article … and of course after watching ”Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1″ – our spirits were a bit high if you know what we mean.

How come some animals (bloggers) are equal, but some animals are more equal than others?

Well, what are we talking about?

How come some blogger can consistently, and immediately always come up with information to rebut the analysis and questions asked by Singaporeans – that other bloggers and social media sites cannot find?

For example, how come some blogger can know the percentage of smaller flats in the different town councils, and the grant per flat type?

By the way, the grant information on the towncouncils.sg web site page link was only updated on 18 November and also on 19 November – almost the very day that Singaporeans were asking questions – What a coincidence?

The issue here is not so much whether ordinary Singaporeans who try to do analysis and ask questions about issues and policies were right (absolutely or partly) or wrong (to what extent) – but rather the engagement (or rather non-engagement) with Singaporeans  - and the use of some blogger (special unequal animal?) to engage and mislead Singaporeans!

If you are silent – you are a coward. If you help the cowards to mislead Singaporeans – you are a traitor!

Let’s talk about just one more example about the town councils’ issues.

You can break-down the Government grants into Service and Conservancy, Town Improvement and Project fund, Sinking fund, GST Subvention grant, etc – but arguably, the total sum of grants may significantly impact a town council’s running of the constituencies.

For example, when you improve – does it mean that you do not have to maintain? So, funds for improvement may help somewhat to reduce maintenance costs?

In this connection, why is it that Tanjong Pagar town council’s total Government and GST Subvention grants was $16,440,742, $14,931,745 and $13,918,101 in 2013/2014, 2012/2013 and 2011/2012 respectively, against just $7,274,608 and $7,261,239 for Aljunied town council in 2012/2013 and 2011/2012 (2013/2014 annual report not published yet)?

It would appear that Tanjong Pagar got (consistently not higher in the past before Aljunied was lost to the Workers’ Party?) 105% and 92% more in 2012/2013 and 2011/2012 respectively, in total grants than Aljunied? Why hah?

Residents in Tanjong Pagar are more equal than Aljunied’s?
