This morning on and around 9 am, I saw a old woman presumably in her early 60s scavenging through several dustbins for discarded tinned cans just outside Bugis MRT along the Public Carpark leading towards Rochor Centre. When I crossed the traffic light towards Bugis Junction, I saw another woman, I think also in her 60s standing outside the UOB ATM machines directly opposite Bugis Village peddling tissue papers. Just an hour ago, I was at Tiong Bahru Plaza and just outside the Macdonald's next to the escalator leading down towards the train station, I witnessed another old woman also in her early 60s standing rigidly by the escalator, holding several packets of tissues paper in her hands waiting for any kind hearted souls to buy those tissues off her hands.
Frankly, all these scenes of our poor elderly folks; some having to scavenge through dustbins for canned tins for resale, while others having to resort to peddling tissues papers to make that meagre amount just so to sustain themselves really bothers me incessantly. What has gone so terribly wrong with the System in placed that the numbers of the aged poor seem to be increasing. Yet at the same time, we have the Dean of LKY School of Policy Studies announcing to the whole World that poverty had been eradicated in Singapore since 2009? Earlier this year, the PM even announced on National television that there are no dead poor here in Singapore. Is this just another case of misinformation that he had been fed with? Has he bothered to even take a good look for himself from his Ivory tower at how more and more of our own Singaporeans are struggling just to make ends meet?
JUST HOW SELFISH CAN PEOPLE GET? AS A GOVERNMENT, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT'S OWN PEOPLE. INSTEAD, THE GOVERNMENT HAS BECOME SELF SERVING.
I UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS HUMAN'S NATURE TO BE SELFISH. IT IS ALSO HUMAN'S NATURE TO BE GREEDY. IT IS HOWEVER TREACHEROUS TO BE BOTH SELFISH AND GREEDY AT THE SAME TIME AND CARE ONLY FOR THEMSELVES WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSEDLY TO BE IN THAT POSITION TO SERVE THE PEOPLE.
I AM ALSO CERTAIN THE PEOPLE WOULD NOT MIND THE GOVERNMENT PAYING THEMSELVES THE HIGHEST SALARIES IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD IF ONLY THEY COULD ALSO IN TURN TAKE BETTER CARE OF IT'S PEOPLE.
HOWEVER, DO WE SEE THAT HAPPENING? DO WE SEE THE GOVERNMENT DOING MORE FOR IT'S OWN CITIZENS? THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION MY DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, IS IN THE STREETS. OPEN UP YOUR EYES AND SEE FOR YOURSELVES THE DEPLORABLE STATE OF LIVES THAT SO MANY OF OUR OWN PIONEER GENERATIONS HAD BEEN SUBJECTED TO LIVE OUT. THEN YOU DECIDE FOR YOURSELVES ONCE AGAIN IF THIS CURRENT BATCH OF MEN IN POWER, STILL DESERVE TO HAVE THE PEOPLE'S MANDATE TO RUN THE COUNTRY!
I TRUST IN YOUR SOUND JUDGEMENT MY DEAR FELLOW SINGAPOREANS. I TRUST THAT YOU KNOW FULL WELL TO WHOM WE SHOULD CAST OUR VOTES TO THIS COMING GE 2015/16. . .
