Xia Xue: I regret and felt stupid doing the Ice Bucket challenge

I understand that people have started to call the ice bucket challenge slacktivism, attention seeking etc. I guess I have to agree that "good causes" going viral often cause a bad taste in the mouth. Before I knew of this challenge, I didn't know what ALS was. Afterwards, I knew a little. But a week from now, it won't be in my thoughts again because let's face it, *touch wood* I don't know anybody who has it. 

I have to agree that simply because one dumps iced water on themselves, 99% because it is the trending thing to do and 1% because they give a slight shit about ALS, that doesn't give them the right to act like they are all noble and charitable. It's disgusting.

So here's my honest admission: I did this only because my friends asked me to. It seemed kinda fun. I didn't think too much into the deeper meaning of it, and I kinda regret doing it.

I didn't do it because I'm noble, or kind, or because it's "for a good cause". 

I sure as hell am not gonna ask anyone to donate because I didn't donate myself. Was typing an explanation for it when I stopped; I didn't owe anyone an explanation. I didn't donate the same reason I don't donate to all the thousands of other obscure diseases out there who probably need it. Because they are all equally irrelevant to me. 

And nobody has the rights to tell others what to do with their money.
