Dear TRS,
I saw this bus driver resting his head on the steering wheel at the traffic junction near Yishun Stadium sometime last week.
The driver was in that position the entire time the traffic light was red, and when it flashed green, the bus was still stationary.
I was in a vehicle two lanes away when I saw this and I am really concerned about the safety of the passengers and other road users when bus drivers are litterally sleeping on the job.
When the light flashed green, I drove off, but I saw that the bus was still not moving. All the other vehicles were already driving off.
If I'm not mistaken, there were passengers on the bus and as per the sign written on the bus, it was headed towards Sengkang.
I didn't get a good look at when he woke up or started to move again as my car had already driven off but I find this really concerning.
Public bus drivers are in charge of the safety and well being of all their passengers, and being alert is one of the major requirements for a professional driver.
If the driver was not feeling well or was very tired, he should have reported in sick rather than risking the lives of all his passengers and other road users.
