Recently, one of my friend who went jogging along Aljunied Road was stunned when she jogged past a few Gurkha soldiers and was wolf-whistled by them.
Along that area, there is a mini track where you can jog along it near Woodleigh station. As the camp is nearby, it is inevitable that she will get some stares from the horny Gurkhas.
Gurkhas have been in Singapore since the 1960s British colonial times.
Since the Goh Chok Tong era, PAP has been preaching to new citizens to get them to take up Singapore citizenship and trying hard to attract foreigners to be new citizens.
Based on what I know (correct me if I am wrong), Gurkhas start on a basic salary of around $1800 per month. That is considered quite good as they have free lodging and food and our poor NS guys only get less than $1000 per month.
By the time, they reach their 40s, they would have earned more than $3K a month.
I have not met one Gurkha who is a Singapore PR and much less a citizen. From what I know, they are on work permits and PAP gave them CPF and when they reach their 40s, all of them will draw out their CPF and retire back in Nepal.
On average, they can easily draw out close to $200,000 a month when they retire. They transfer whatever money they have in their Ordinary to Special account which gives them 4% annual interest. They also enjoy pension and gratuity.
Based on what I observe (correct me if I am wrong), they are able to bring their spouse and children on dependent's pass but even their children are unwilling to be citizens of Singapore. I saw quite a lot of them with spouse along Woodleigh station.
As proven by UK, Gurkhas are just as every bit unreliable as any normal human. They can revolt and demand for better pension. Link
Gurkhas can also commit crimes, as evidenced by a recent case of Gurkha getting into a fight over a gal or having underaged sex with a girl. They are also neither very good as evidenced by the escape of Mas Selamat in Whitney Road camp.
PAP should look to the lessons on why Gurkhas has failed to integrate with Singapore.
If PAP fails at getting Gurkhas to even take up PRs, what will this say about their attempts to integrate foreigners with Singaporeans?
