Dear TRS,
I was at white sand's Mcdonalds having a meal when I couldn't help but noticed an unusually odd-couple the table next to mine. It was a Filipino domestic helper and an elderly chinese lady on a wheel chair. The domestic helper was busy on her tablet, while the old lady seemed to be in a daze. Needless to say, they caught the eye of patrons walking in and out.
Few minutes later, they were joined by another Filipino maid and a bangladeshi worker. Both ladies were scantitly clad. They started laying out things that they purchased, such as a box of cake, chips as well as some soft drinks. It immediately strucked off to me that they're probably going on a picnic after this. Were they going bring the old lady to their picnic as well?
The poor old lady was asking her domestic helper for food and drinks, and all she was offered were a half eaten burger and a cup of coke. She seems to be totally confused with what's being offered to her, and asked the Filipino lady what's in the cup. The Three was totally imersed in the world of their own, happy chatting away and laughing happily, ignoring the old lady. I was totally angered by them. I wasn't the only one; the malay uncle opposite of me was staring at them as well. Soon after, they left with the old lady.
I do not have a problem with domestic helpers spending time with their weekend lovers. At least, don't bring the poor elderly along. Employers, if you're concern with the well-being of your elderly parents, please make it your responsibilty to ensure they are properly taken care off, even with a maid. I think they deserve better than just spending their twilight years with strangers at a fast food chain. It really saddens and anger me to see our pioneer generation in this state. Althought nothing new, I hope this article will open our eyes to all fellow Singaporean. Hope this gives you something to ponder about.
