Activism and voicing out in Singapore

Dear The Real Singapore,

I can't imagine being sued by a Prime Minister. Would be scared shitless. The whole machination and propaganda machine of a government that is almost 50 years in power will be on you. There will be calls in the middle of the night. People knocking on your door just to get to your head. Your employer will be instructed to find an excuse to fire you. And other stuffs. Makes it hard to voice out anything. Even if the things you voice out is to benefit all. People will laugh at you for being stupid enough to go against a Goliath. Even people who stand to benefit. Even oppositions are silent because you are not with them and it's a sensitive topic.

Some even try to wayang using a cause that you have started. And you wonder what's next? On the other hand the voiceless or the ones who don't dare to voice out are secretly cheering because you presented hope for them. The next few days, magically, debates started because of what you brought up. More people question and more people are aware due to your activism. There will be more of you. That's what first world nations and people's mentality are about. That's how nations grow. Not by submission but by activism and good governance.

Having lived in first world nations with a two-party system I have witnessed people able and willing to voice out what is right and what is wrong. Cartoonists often draw caricatures of their Congressmen, PMs and Presidents insinuating that they are dishonest and swayed by lobbyists' funds. People can criticize their leaders.

They didn't get sued for defamation. It's time to upgrade the sampan to a boat, whether the captain can change, well, that's not up to how the captain wants it. Does he want to change...or changed by the owners of the boat?

Someone who have seen positive activism
