Dear The Real Singapore,
Today is Vesak Day, first of all Happy Vesak Day!
A great injustice happened to the minority Indians in Singapore.on this multi racial country. We the Indian(Hindus) were denied a public holiday. Then Mr Lee Kuan Yew believed Singapore had too many holidays .so they put a choice to the Indian community is either Vesak Day or Thaipusam then S.Rajaratnam claimed Buddha was Hindu and originated from India.S.Rajaratnam who was a Sri Lankan by birth wanted the smaller Ceylonese community to be happy.
A group of yes people representing the Indian community agreed and we the Indian ended up with only one holiday.and this country is claiming it's a multi racial country. This discrimination has been going on for ages.my question why did LKY felt that there was a need to cut one holiday? Why they came to a conclusion that either Vesak Day or Thaipusam should be axed. It's about time we Indians get our holiday. Every race and religions has two holidays and we only got one.
Where is the equality justice? How can this country be multi religious and multi racial if this discrimination is taking place.why was Thaipusam axed was it because the procession has to pass Oxley Rise and musical instruments were banned.
