What Mr Goh says is quite true. There will be hard-core pro PAP supporters and they usually form 30 per cent of the voters, so even if a credible opposition were to contest in their area, they will die-die vote for PAP.
And PAP will just need 15 to 20 per cent of new voters to win the margin so it is highly possible that PAP will flood Tampines, East Coast, Marine Parade with new citizens this year or next year, courtesy of HDB's help.
However, on the other hand, one of my other colleague from China (new citizen) told me that she did vote for PAP in GE2011 but come GE2015, she may vote against PAP.
If that is true, there is still some glimmer of hope to convert new citizens to vote against PAP.
Her logic is simple. If PAP can start to listen more to citizens and engage Singaporeans in a heart-to-heart talk in Our SG Conversation, all the more she should vote against PAP to make PAP listen more come GE2015.
She is from PRC, a medical doctor by training in China but she wasn't able to practice in Singapore as her medical degree is not recognised in Singapore Medical Council. As a result, she had to downgrade herself by finding work in as an operations manager in a large clinic conglomerate company.
She confessed to me that during a closed door session with an ICA officer, the ICA staff told her that she is qualified to be a Singapore citizen but must vote for the PAP. It was verbal order from the ICA staff and she had no written proof on that.
She told me that once she is due for retirement, she can return back to China, do a Li Jiawei stunt, and is confident of getting back her PRC citizenship again.
However, right now, as she is a Singapore citizen, she is adamant about voting against PAP to get all the benefits that she can get and why not?
Every since PAP mandate fell to a new low in GE2011, PAP is trying to win back popular votes.
From the young, old, civil servants and rich, we somehow benefited when PAP gave us more incentives such as Pioneer Generation Package, GST voucher, Wage Credit, Waiver of Cash Over Valuation for HDB flats, Workfare, Baby Bonus etc.

Can any TRS reader tell me who doesn't stand to benefit if we vote out PAP?
