5 Reasons Why Forming a Coalition Government is Good for Singapore

Dr Tan Cheng Bock raised this issue about a Coalition government being formed in GE2015 when there is no clear majority. Click on http://therealsingapore.com/content/dr-tan-cheng-bock-coalition-government-and-presidency

It is likely that PAP may lose a few more GRCs in the upcoming elections but this time, it is not enough to just lose a few more GRCs. If that happens, once again, PAP will still bully us in Parliament and in the real world.

We need to ensure that PAP loses enough GRCs to form a coalition government and at lease an effective voting block against PAP.

Some of my people have voiced out, "Can't we just let Workers Party win just a few more seats and GRCs and let PAP still hold the majority? After all, Low Thia Kiang have said they are not ready ready to form the alternative government yet."

Others are worried that once a coalition is formed, there will be fights and quarrels until things will gridlock just like how the Taiwanese politicians punch and slap each other on television.

PAP will probably use this analogy to frighten voters and say that things will grind to a halt if they vote in more opposition politicians.

After all, PM Lee once said in 2006 Election that "Instead of spending my time thinking what is the right policy for Singapore, I am going to spend my time to fix opposition MPs. How can I think of what is the right direction for the future of Singapore?"

Below are 5 good reasons why forming a coalition government is good to counter-argue PM Lee's. Feel free to add more if you believe so.

1) A Coalition Government Ensures that We Can Push for Transparent Information.

So far, we don't even know the cost price of a HDB flat, the YOG Statement of Accounts, the number of ASEAN scholarships, and size of National Reserves because the PAP won't tell us.

Obviously, for the PAP, the more they can keep under wraps, the better.

Having a coalition government means that politicians from opposition parties can now assume Ministerial positions and finally have access to these classified documents and unlock the biggest mysteries in Singapore.

2) All political parties have some united cause and places national interest above their own parties' interest.

Most opposition political parties do want to be united and their manifestos all declare that they will push for affordable healthcare, good eudcation opportunities, affordable housing, reduction in immigrants and social safety nets for Singaporeans.

Opposition political parties also say that they will never use estate upgrading as a carrot or stick for their voters.

Therefore, there is no basic contradiction in these common areas and I don't see why they will fight among each other when they share common viewpoints.

3) Having a Strong Coalition Will Mean No More Bullying Tactics from PAP.

We have seen how arrogant and vindictive PAP is towards WP in Parliament over the NEA Hawkers Spring cleaning issue.

We have also witnessed how PAP has used Attorney General Office to sue Demoncratic Leslie Chew, Yawning Bread Alex Au over comments made by them.

We should not forget Operation Coldstore, Operation Spectrum. the Marxist conspiracy and many more stunts pulled by the PAP.

So far, no opposition parties have used the legal process to sue back its own citizens over their viewpoints.

Having a coalition government will mean that we need not fear about being sued for accusing a PAP minister for having no balls.

And Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will have his just desserts by having opposition fingers pointed at him instead for blowing the YOG budget.

4) A Coalition Government Means that a More Equal Society Can Come Aboard.

Many opposition parties have fielded people with humble backgrounds who are neither elites or scholars such as Lee Lee Lian which was probably her win factor over the "I got one car, my wife has another car" Dr Koh Poh Khoon.

When I went for a job interview in MICA in Maxwell Road, I was taken aback by their wonderful pantry which had a Nespresso coffee machine and it can dispense more than 5 types of beverages - Cuppucino, Milo, Coffee, Expresso and Chocolate Mocha.

Most of us who work in private sector don't get to enjoy these perks. We work harder than civil servants and have to compete with foreigners who love to spoil the market by depressing our salaries and working longer than us.

Having a coalition will mean that I can finally have that Nespresso coffee machine, despite our background because we are entitled to these perks as Singaporeans.

5) We Can Finally Decide on How GIC and Temasek Holdings Spend / Invest their Money.

GIC and Temasek Holdings have chalked up billions of losses over Citibank, Suzhou Industrial Park and other investments that we are not privy to.

While PAP can splurge our money like how Sun Ho blows $25 million to make her China Wine video, PAP is still above the law as long as we can't get a coalition government in Parliament.

Having one more watchtower to make sure Ho Jinx don't get to splurge our money will probably mean that we can finally withdraw our CPF monies at last.
