A friend of mine (who is largely politically-neutral) shared this story: A PAP MP went on a walkabout at his block and they had a chat over what was residents' concerns.
As a result, my friend expressed concerns over the influx of immigration. Now, this friend is someone who has good foreigner friends since 15 but He told the PAP MP what made him change his attitude towards foreigners is the fact that he had to serve NS and wasn't given a scholarship at NUS even though some of his less competent forefinger peers were on scholarship.
While he still has many friends who are foreigners, it is inevitable that such a policy made him feel marginalized. Hence, he asked if the MP thought that PAP policies are the root cause of xenophobia. What made him appalled was the PAP MP's "standard reply"
Instead of having his own views, the PAP MP essentially repeated the propaganda from the Shit Times, saying that the economy needs foreigners and that NS is a separate issue that Singaporeans have to do their duty.
Do we need to pay $180k a year for a parrot in white? I told my friend that we should vote PAP out and he couldn't agree more with me!
