Are you enraged when you saw the caption/title? I was equally offended.
I happened to come across an article published by the TRS titled "10 TYPES OF SINGAPOREAN GIRLS YOU’LL PROBABLY END UP WITH". It was an effort for humour and obviously a post for entertainment, one anybody would take with a pinch of salt. By chance, I came across a critic (also known as Rachel Thx on Facebook) slamming the author with:
A very "original" post with "abundance" creativity. Not the least bit entertaining nor witty. And you def forgot a 11th type: 'The xiaxue wannabe local blogger who makes poor, feeble attempts in blog-writing and posts common articles on TRS just to boost readership.'
I thought that Rachel actually needed to buy some sense of humour instead of casting out someone else's write-up that was meant to brighten people's day. The article was obviously meant to be a fun-read material.
However her reply to a comment gave me a shock.
"Yes of course I need a bit of self- reflection. <- advised by a guy who studied Business at ITE and laughed at mean comments trolling the miss singapore contestants. I'm sure you aced your O levels examinations and did our country proud by displaying the right attitude. *thumbs up bro!! *"
Check out the comments section.
What?! Having graduated from ITE actually meant that we are in no position to voice out? What have O'Level results actually got to do with your level of density? & speaking of which, attitude? Really..?
First: Just sidetracking a little bit, with regards to the trolling comments of Ms Singapore contestants.
I realised this was obviously just another post for humour which kinda rendered her point invalid-again.
Second: There are several people who replied to her in disagreement, the only person she replied to was an ITE graduate as she felt indignant to be chided by someone who graduated from ITE. Brilliant, and it's evident.
Third: If you're going to criticise, don't be afraid of getting criticised or at least, criticise in English.
Fourth: O'Levels was relevant, I assume? & so people who failed O'Levels actually shamed the country?
I must say this is a public display of ignorance by an illiterate troller.
So for the ignorance of Rachel a proud University graduate, some people actually do end up in ITE having failed their O's but that doesn't give you a winning edge in terms of character. Also, some ended up in ITE due to financial difficulties and there are tertiary graduates who goes to ITE for part time courses to attain additional credentials.
On which scale does it says that the examinations is a form of measurement for your character? Surely, scholarly Rachel scored aces for her O's and wind up in RMIT and displayed an excellent attitude to have done our countrymen proud. That's pretty self-explanatory by now.
Singapore is a democratic country but we all know that our freedom to speak freely is restrained to a certain extent. I can't help but think this is one of the reasons why. We cannot even trust a University graduate to speak responsibly and her remark wasn't even a personal attack, mark that it was on a community-level.
No offence to fellow university students because I have plenty of friends who are university graduates that find her remark very degrading. This display of arrogance, ignorance and insolence however spells shame aloud. Intolerable at its essence too.
So Rachel.. if this is how you're going to intoxicate our society, I think you're worse off than any illiterates.
I assume you must be very original, "abundance creativity", entertaining, witty and scholarly.
BUT you seems to be everything on the contrary.
