The Singaporean man who set himself on fire in JB on Saturday has been identified as Mr Lew Soon Keng, a 42 year old Singaporean.
According to his brother, Lew had been facing some drug charges and was also struggling financially.
He had tried to start a few businesses including opening shops to sell fashion items and mobile phones and had registered a business in 2010, however he was facing financial issues which also caused a breakdown of his family relationships.
Lew was also arrested on some drug charges but he had apparently disappeared 2 days before his court date.
Lew had purchased about 4 litres of petrol from a kiosk near Plaza Pelangi in JB before sitting down on the curb, dousing himself in the petrol and setting himself on fire.
He later fell into a drain while still alight as passersby extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher and called an ambulance.
Lew also had a girlfriend who he has a young daughter with.
