Unemployed not because there isn’t any work

Do you know that the real median income change from 2008 to 2013 was only 1.0 per cent per annum, for the 20th percentile – the real change per annum for the last 10 years was only 0.3 per cent?

How do you feel about the demise of collective bargaining, introduction of pro-employer policies, a lack of a minimum wage etc, will you stand up for our rights to fair wage and employment?

Do you know your rights being employed in Singapore?

Do you know anything about labour rights or your rights to equal employment?

How many workers are being treated unfairly in Singapore?

How independent unions got removed?

If you’re unemployed it’s not because there isn’t any work.

Just look around: A housing shortage, crime, pollution; we need better schools and parks. Whatever our needs, they all require work. And as long as we have unsatisfied needs, there’s work to be done.

So ask yourself, what kind of world has work but no jobs. It’s a world where work is not related to satisfying our needs, a world where work is only related to satisfying the profit needs of businesses.

This country was not built by the huge corporations or government bureaucracies. It was built by people who worked. And it is working people who should control the work to be done. Yet, as long as employment is tied to somebody else’s profit margins, the work won’t get done.

Join us at Hong Lim Park on Saturday, 3 May, 4pm to discuss!
