At a fund raising event over the weekend, DPM Tharman said that the most meaningful way to integrate is to take a genuine interest in someone's life.
He was speaking in front of about 200 new citizens and expats from India at the Indian Business Leaders' Roundtable event on Saturday evening.
Tharman explained that while it is good for people to give back to society and give donations, it's even better if new immigrants actually take an interest in the individuals of society. This is what will create a better society and make us better citizens.
He pointed out that the successful in society can often become out of touch with society and so it is important to continue integrating so that individuals can understand the "complexities" and the "full texture" of society.
Tharman also suggested that individuals "get involved" in helping the society and further explained that this could be as simple as helping an employee with family problems or joining community groups.
The event he was speaking at was set up by Sinda, to bring together top executives and business leaders.
The group participate in fundraising activities and over the weekend, they donated $307,000 to Sinda to allow them to continue paying for maths-tuition programs for needy families.
