In many developed countries, their citizens pay higher taxes, but even after paying for their taxes, they still earn more than Singaporeans.
And with what they earn, they are still able to buy more things than Singaporeans.
Yet, Singaporeans still pretend that we have a better life than they do.
We have better hospitals! Sure, but can you pay to use it?
We have better education! Sure, but how long would you have to pay off the debt because of it?
We are paid high wages! Sure, how many things can you buy with that?
In many of these countries, their citizens pay next to nothing for healthcare and education. And they earn much higher wages, even after tax.
Singaporeans like to think that we are better than others. Sure, the Singapore brand is strong because the government earns all the money - your money. The Singaporean brand?
Do we even know what we are being proud about? Instead of being proud of fighting for our rights to live better and earn more, we are proud to protect a life that has been cut down by the government.
Pride? I'm not sure we have our pride in the right place.
