This on one very sensitive topic and we are taking a big risk to even have an opinion of our own. But opinions are opinions, and we believe there is no harm to have an opinion.
Why are we even making noise over the naming of warships? Doesn't anyone realize that the names of warships are supposed to mobilize and inspire the warriors and soldiers at times of war?
In peace time, diplomatic considerations may be the order of the day, but imagine yourself naming your warships with names like Michael Jordan, or Fandi Ahmad, or Rudy Hartono? They may sound great during peace times, but when at war? Yup, it will sound like you have Mickey Mouse as your companion while defending your country.
So yes, who can fault the Indonesians for raising the pedestals of its war saints, when as soldiers, they had shown exemplary conduct to place the country above self? If we have such people we too would honour them they way the Indonesians are doing.
So, let us not find trouble with our neighbors because we think we are doing a service to our own without considering the context by which the Indonesians have acted.
