Dear The Real Singapore,
I was boarding the train home with 2 other guys from my uni project group. It seems like they met back when they were serving NS.
And so, along the journey, they started talking about their army days.
Lets just call them guy A and guy B. So guy A was telling me how guy B used to be an officer.
But apparently after he commissioned he immediately went to downgrade into a clerk. I thought it was pretty funny, so I casually remarked "wah how we depend on guys to defend us in war sia. Eh then I think I defend myself better."
I really meant it as a joke. But the two of them suddenly stared at me and went all "hulk-smash" mode.
Guy A suddenly drew me this analogy of how if National Defence was a nationwide project, women are essentially just a bunch of free-riders, free riding for not one or two semesters, but free riding for the past fifty years.
I was really like wtf. I couldn't really respond to that, i mean..... he's kind of right.
And then guy B just started telling me how despite our smack talk about equality and getting men to pretend that we are equals for the past few decades, we can't even bring ourselves to fulfil the same responsibilities as men.
I was like wtf. Seriously chill out I was just kidding.
And for the record, I'm not some crazy feminist. I was want to find a good husband and be a good wife and mother.
And now the two guys in my project group think i'm some hypocritical equality-preaching girl.
