Does it matter what he will say? He has backtracked because of the political pressure asserted upon him on behalf of the elderly by a ‘repolitizised’ citizenry.
Is the elderly in existence only after GE 2011? No, but the popularity of PAP has taken a hattrick of defeats; losing a GRC for the first time, and then losing 2 by elections in succession.
Is anyone thinking this is a genuine package for the elderly? It is not. It is a concession on the back of a swift kick in the rear between two lumps of flesh. The details will show what kind of concession it is.
With regards to it being a ‘Pioneer Generation Package’, how many of them are actually alive today? LKY was at 43 years old the PM of Singapore, he is now 90, our average age of demised is about 82, so how many of them are left?
Now, Mdm Loke who was 95, jumped to her death last year because she didnt want to burden her children with health costs, she would actually be in the pioneer generation.
So, in the name of sincerity, why now, when probably most of them are dead, invalid, unable to enjoy whatever you may want to give?
Does it really matter what PM will say? It really dosent.
What matters is that citizens keep abreast of issues. And continue to educate ourselves about Singapore. And hence, to craft a new relationship with the government that will be Singaporean centric.
