TRS reader Matt was surprised that a secondary school had imposed a minimum amount of $20 for students to collect on their donation cards.
He feels that this is bringing across the wrong message to students, as helping should come from within our means.
Matt said:
"My son asked me to help his friend by donating to the Children's Cancer Foundation, and I have always been encouraging to my kids to help others if it's within our means.
"However, what surprised me was when he informed me that his friend had volunteered to help by getting a donation card, but he cannot return the donation card to his school unless he has collected a minimum amount of $20.
"When I took a look at the form, true enough, the school, Bedok View Secondary had imposed on their students a 'minimum amount' on the donation card.
"As a parent and as much I encourage such volunteering acts, it should not be to the extend where we impose such conditions on the students as the message being brought across to these students is wrong.
"Can the school care to comment, please?"
