The nation-building press today reported on Health Minister Gan Kim Yong's speech on the new Medishield Life scheme with much fanfare.
Yet after going one big round quoting Gan, we are none the wiser about the specifics of the upcoming scheme particularly on how the coverage for those above 90 years old will be financed.
One one hand, Gan had said initially last year that inter-generational cross subsidy is not sustainable. Yet yesterday, he calls for "collective responsibility" to help fund a "reasonable cost-sharing framework" since "an inclusive society means everyone needs to bear part of it."
So if this is not inter-generational cross subsidy that Gan is hinting at, then what is it?
And if it is, then wouldn't it mean higher premiums for working adults when this scheme rolls out?
And oh, patients will pay less, says the headline but is that really so when we are already paying premium?
