A 37 year old Indonesian maid was jailed for 12 weeks on Tuesday for burying her newborn baby in her employer's backyard.
The crime was committed in November last year after Musliyati gave birth to the boy at her employer's house in Serangoon Gardens.
She had been having a relationship with a Malaysian man last year and had often met up with him between April and October of 2013 at a hotel in Geylang.
She had discovered she was pregnant in about August and had taken several contraceptive pills and worn corsets and loose clothing to conceal her state from her employers.
It was heard that she gave birth while squatting over the toilet in the early morning of November 8 but it is unknown if the baby was alive at birth.
She then tore the umbilical cord and wrapped the baby boy in a cloth and put him in a plastic bag.
Later, she buried it in her employer's backyard to hide the fact but was discovered when she had gone for a medical check-up after feeling pain and dizziness later in the day.
The maximum sentence for the crime could have been 2 years jail and a fine.
