The ground reality of foreigners

I refer to: ANZ is a poorly managed bank!

“Lastly, I was quite annoyed that I could not understand the slang of the operators, who are clearly not Singaporeans.”

While economic reasons do dictate a large part of the foreign invasion for many of the PMET and more professional positions, Singaporeans by and large are left in the cold. Many Singaporeans are culturally more sensitive and can understand and communicate effectively and more precisely against the many foreigners who can’t even communicate let alone be understood with their inimitable foreign accent. That is a reality that any able bodied true blue leaders must comprehend and understand. So much for leaders being culture sensitive and any talk of ONE SINGAPORE wholeheartedly will not resonate in such disturbing environmental situations.

Using qualifications as a benchmark for many universities from India, China, Myanmar etc and not having the cross mix with our universities in terms of standing and rigor has allowed many foreign PMETs to get a foothold. There is clearly no comparison chart on their status vis a vis Singapore universities and others. Once a few foreigners are recruited and once they are here the next moment you will find a whole village of foreigners. Our local culture is alien to the first few foreigners and to get their own kind by giving flimsy reasons to their employers they form their own culture within a national ONE SINGAPORE culture. They will find Pinoys sticking to their own kind, the Indian expats thinking they are `sikit atas’ and shun locals and the Chinese PRCs talking in language we don’t even understand. So the foreign reign continues.

When the British came here the top hierarchy and many of their professional leadership positions were held by British during the colonial era. Their stranglehold on professionalism was complete and they maintained their control. Today we have a semblance of second colonization – the economic kind – where foreigners are dictating to us in our own land. What is happening???

Many of the foreign employers, MNCs and even GLCs are only interested in profits and are partly responsible for the erosion of even our local cultural values. The social plunge and what you see as the foreign invasion happened at the expense of many of our own locals who are either unemployed or driving taxis as a last resort. This is something a Singaporean will not forget. Take a taxi once in a while and you will find a whole battalion of taxi drivers – the only bastion for Singaporeans to remain gainfully employed albeit far below their status – speaking perfect English and many left in the cold. Where do we go next!!! Who speaks for the many Singaporeans!!! So much for SINGAPOREANS FIRST.

Our past leadership came into power because of the unflinching faith of the people of Singapore. Almost all Singaporeans had abundant faith in our leaders. Many of their generation voted for PAP and what happened today is something they will never forget. The scar will remain come GE 2016.

A new Singaporean identity will be forged and will come.
