I refer to Anti-PAP Sentiment All Time HIgh. (Link)
It seems likely that PAP may lose their majority and opposiion parties will form an effective voting bloc in Parliament in GE2016.
We should not celebrate too fast if that happens. Remember that PAP already controls majority of stats boards, government ministries, quasi-government bodies and corporations.
Many of their pro-PAP directors will do whatever it takes to make things difficult for opposition parties to do their job well in Parliament.
A good example will be the NEA Hawker High Ceiling saga which some pro-PAP volunteers stirred the pot and spilt the whole nation over the issue of who is to blame.
The same scenario can jolly well happen. Even if an opposition MP such as Sylvia Lim were to assume an important Ministerial position, the chances are that she will face an insurmountable task as all her subordinates will probably lay booby traps for her to fail.
If that happens, most Singaporeans may take to the streets to riot.
People destroy out of frustration (the frustration-aggression hypothesis). When people find they cannot achieve their goals as something is blocking them, they become frustrated. Among young men this frustration is expressed through anger and violence and in extreme cases, rioting. When people feel that the world is screwing them over, they lash out at the world.
What causes these frustrations? There are numerous possible explanations but I believe poverty and inequality are the two major ones (which is why rioting occurs in the poorest part of unequal societies).
Most people have similar goals in life, they want to be successful.
Inequality plays a large part in this. If everyone is suffering then there is less resentment, however, if it is felt that some (even a small group) is parting while the rest toil, then resentment grows even more.
What happens then? Can we allow this to happen? What can be done to prevent this?
