Do we have a staged oppositions in Singapore?

Dear The Real Singapore,

Shakespeare said, “The world is a stage”.

In the aftermath of the black history in Singapore, the riot in Little India, people were speculating why these horrors happened? The scenes were something that we saw in middle east and Africa.

PM, in order to prevent this incident from happening again, said he will increase of number of FW dorms and ban liquor sales on Sunday. Uncle Leong looked at issues of low salaries and the terrible environment the workers live in. Kenneth was saying the same things. Rest of the world starts to speculate how these things can happen in a country that has a strict rule of laws.

Leaders are supposed to “speculate”, to predict. That is how they solve problems. To counter flooding, they “speculate” to having to make the rivers and canals bigger. When I came out with an article that our buildings are like a tandoori oven, Khaw came out with rulings that buildings must have a small patch of greenery and they start to re-look in the design of buildings. Speculation is foresight and that is how we solve problems or problems that are going to happen if we do not make changes.

But in the aftermath of rioting, our hopeful opposition which we put our souls and spirits to support them came out with this:

“The Workers’ Party (WP) on Monday urged the public to refrain from speculating and making unnecessary accusations as the police investigates the Little India riot.”

Let us look at the meaning of speculate:

spec·u·late
v. spec·u·lat·ed, spec·u·lat·ing, spec·u·lates
v.intr.

1. To meditate on a subject; reflect.
2. To engage in a course of reasoning often based on inconclusive evidence. See Synonyms at think.
3. To engage in the buying or selling of a commodity with an element of risk on the chance of profit.

v.tr.
To assume to be true without conclusive evidence: speculated that high cholesterol was a contributing factor to the patient’s health problems..

If WP one day takes over Singapore, it is going to be worrisome for Singapore as they lack the ability to speculate. Is WP our answer to replace PAP, as they disallow speculations?

We have seen how the telecos, M1, Starhub, Singtel try to compete one another, but were all these staged as all these companies whose majority shareholders are the Government companies run by the PAP? If they can create the illusion of competition, can they create the same thing in the political arena?

Remember what WP’s Pritam said, one day they might have a coalition with PAP, but after the public outcry he retracted:

Let us speculate. How can he let down those with blood and sweats who elected him and suddenly he made a suggestion to work the white devils that we are trying to remove from our lives? Why did he make such a remark? Readers, I let you do the speculation.

PAP are in power for 50 years. They are master of deception and a great stage director. Can’t they stage fake oppositions in Singapore? This can be a shrewd move by indirectly “buying over” their opponents. That is, since we have faith in the oppositions, we will believe and obey the commands dished out by the oppositions but actually it was a direction by the ruling party. Unknowingly, we obey them. This strategy has been used for thousands of years.

PAP are not stupid. If not, how they hold on to powers for 50 years? Look at the British, how they rule. Readers, therefore, when you see the next rally, perhaps it is just another wayang (acting) but when they enter parliament, they are just like a dog being muzzled.
