Many people do not understand what is TRS, TRS is actually us

Dear TRS readers,

After the recent Twelve Cupcakes issue and the responses made by both ex DJ Daniel Ong and other viewers, I came to a personal conclusion that many don't actually understand the real purpose of TRS.

TRS was set out, I believe, to act as a third party news source providing us with constant uncensored news first hand without having to go through mainstream, government controlled media such as your TODAY newspapers or The Straits Times. It provides clearer transparency into the government's policies and to pinpoint and discuss issues in the society today which constantly troubles our fellow Singaporeans, something which we cannot use the mainstream papers as a medium to do so.

The most recent issue of Twelve Cupcakes sees DJ Daniel Ong openly criticise TRS for being a news media meant to defame others without finding out 'the real truth'. Indeed, TRS isn't a form of media which actually finds out the credibility of every news article and is one of the only news platform which relies on citizen journalism that isn't actually censored (I get the feeling that STOMP is heavily censored on anti-govt contents), but that also doesn't mean that whatever TRS publishes is not true. It may or may not appeal to everyone else, but it is also the readers' role to discern whether or not these articles seem believable or not. What more, nobody would actually be free enough to fabricate stories out of nothing and yet would be able to find many evidences to support their claims (such as the recent Twelve Cupcakes incident).

What more, we should in fact be grateful that we have third party media platforms like TRS to criticise the various negative aspects of the country to ensure a more progressive nation.

TRS provides a more bonded community in Singapore as everyone work towards the same goal of having a better living environment. No, I am not a supporter or a member of the TRS board of directors if they even do have one, but I stand for the belief of fairness and I appeal to everyone to do the same and to discern themselves whether or not TRS is a reliable and credible source of news.

As the slogan goes, 'Voices of Average Singaporeans', I feel that Singaporeans should in fact feel proud that they have fellow Singaporeans standing out to voice out their concerns and worries openly, and more importantly, applaud the admins behind this platform for bravely defying the norms of censorship to publish these articles in hope of the government officials reading them.

Have a nice day!

Anonymous TRS reader
