Dear The Real Singapore,
I must admit I love cupcakes. Heck, I love all things sweet and savoury, all kinds of desserts included.
As a boy, I remember getting spoilt by my grandpa who would constantly pander to my every whim and fancy for cupcakes, cakes and sweet desserts. I guess that’s how my sweet tooth addiction came about. And now I am a food blogger with a taste for sweetness. Story of my life. Really.
Singapore has surprisingly few and far between cupcakes cafes or shops that offer comforting and not overly sweet cupcakes. The many cupcakes places I’ve been to, I’ve seen more misses than hits. Unfortunately, very few cupcakes I’ve eaten in Singapore have left a lasting impression on me.
Twelve Cupcakes Singapore included.
I have tried many of their flavors including the ones from their classics menu, and quite frankly, most of them are pretty much uneventful. Packed with so much sugary sweetness that could potentially send you to diabetes heaven, their cupcakes are pretty to see but not to eat. Please don't super-size yourself.
Inconsistent with some cupcakes being too moist and some not so moist, with too much sweetness in their flavours, the ultimate nail in the coffin for Twelve Cupcakes Singapore was the frosting. The frosting just didn’t do it for me. There was too little cake and too much frosting. Indeed, I even joked that I‘ve had bought very expensive frosting.
Worth it for me to return back to Twelve Cupcakes? Well, I probably won't return. Not for a very long time. Hell, I can’t even be bothered to rate their pretty looking cupcakes. After all, with a taste that sweet and inconsistent, and overall nothing fantastic, I can’t even pen a rating more than 2 out of 5 for any of their cupcakes that I have tried.
If taming your tummy and avoiding a spare tyre or a stress bulge is your concern, I would say banish
these cupcakes. Totally.
With that, I urge all Singaporeans not to patronize and visit Twelve Cupcakes anymore.
