A few months ago, I went to Recruit Express Level 6 CPF Building Bishan to apply for temporary jobs.
I noticed that Level 3 and Level 4 are empty as the signboards at the lift lobby of CPF Building says so.
As I needed to go to the toilet, I usually like to use toilets that do not have any occupants as they are much cleaner.
I went down to Level 4 and was shocked to learn that there are occupants but no signboard.
The security guard at Level 4 was very fierce and asked me what I was doing there through the glass panel.
I quickly went back up to Level 6 to use the toilet facilities.
After my appointment, I went down to Level 1 again and re-confirmed that that the signboards on Level 3 and 4 are empty.
Out of curiosity, I asked the friendly security guard on Level 1 about my nasty encounter.
He said that Level 3 and Level 4 belonged to GIC Government Investment Corporation.
He told me that he also find it very puzzling that GIC doesn't want its name to printed on the signboard at their lift lobby.
However, other companies in that building such as Huttons, Recruit Express all had to comply to the Building Safety Act or else they can be fined.
I am not a workplace safety officer but common sense prevails that for any office to be certified fire-safe, the signboards must at least label the office name.
If there is indeed a fire on GIC Level 3 and mass evacuation is needed, the fire fighters will have a difficult time finding the source of the fire if they cannot even locate the signboard name. Fire fighters may think that Level 3 and Level 4 are empty so they will skip them.
Does it mean that GIC is above the law?
